Get over trying to put him on a pedestal (he is too old to climb up on it anyway) and move on to a new idol. And for those who think he is so great because he has done something ‘memorable’? For the record, Gandhi started ‘sleeping’ with Manu when she was 18, the story came to light a year later. It seems that most of the girls who shared his bed were also over 18.

I agree with Jerry Connors. I like the quote and would suggest that it is actually based in truth. There is a reason why preachers and musicians are elevated when they speak and/or perform. Imagine for a second a homeless man; he’s dressed in rags; he looks sad, hungry and desperate. If any of you imagined this individual, in your vision, were you looking up at him? Was he at eye level? The odds are that you imagined yourself looking down at him. I’m sure that most of you have heard people talk about meeting famous people and while you’ve probably heard people say that they “thought that they’d be taller,” most of you have probably never heard someone say “I thought that they’d be shorter” while referencing actors and musicians that they meet- especially if they are actually fans of the individuals. This is because we associate their physical position with their importance.
Consequently, not only am I not a Manson follower…unless I’m missing something, I didn’t notice that his fan club was making an appearance on this site either. The question was inquiring about opinions concerning the quote- not about the man’s criminal, social or political convictions, aspirations or achievements. Granted, I would disagree with some of the statements herein. However, I didn’t get the impression that anyone was carving a swastika in their craniums whilst they typed.

Charles Manson had a horrible childhood and as a result turned into something horrible himself. Some people may support his free living, his hippy ideals, his orgies, his drugs, or whatever. But who can truly support a man who took in emotionally unstable girls, battered down their inhibitions, took away their wills and their sense of self, and forced them to do horrible things?
When it comes down to it, he was mad. He thought the beatles were telling him to begin a world-wide race war. He thought that he was Jesus Christ! He brainwashed and ordered young women to kill, to kill a PREGNANT WOMAN. Think about the unborn baby! He was due in just a few short weeks and Family members admitted, while they were on trial, that Sharon Tate begged them to let her live long enough to have the baby. But what did they do? With the help of Tex Watson, they stabbed her 50 times. These girls weren’t born bad, nut they were turned bad.
I don’t see how you can support him for being “memorable”. Anyone can create their own twisted ideology, but only the horrid will release it upon the weak-willed. It’s being good and doing the right thing in life that is hard, but that’s why it counts, right? Anyone can kill, but they don’t. Because it’s RIGHT not to, people! Jeez!!!
